Level 6 with Year 0A Foundation year (Year 0) is a one-year preparation course attached to a full degree — the standard route into university for adults, fully funded by Student Finance England.
The first year of a four-year integrated degree. It bridges school and university — giving you the academic skills, subject grounding and confidence to thrive on the main degree.
The biggest barrier to university is removed. Work experience or simply being a motivated mature applicant can be enough.
Funded as part of your degree — Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan and any grants you qualify for, the same as Years 1–3.
You progress straight into Year 1 without re-applying. Your final certificate is identical to a 3-year degree.
Every course below offers a Year 0 entry route, accepts adults without A-levels, and is fully Student Finance eligible.
You’ve picked the qualification — now four clear steps take you from “interested” to enrolled, with free support at every stage.
Confirm you're eligible and see your funding — tuition and maintenance — in about two minutes.

A Certificate of Foundation Studies — recognition of completed Level 3 study.
Exit with a Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) — a Level 4 qualification.
Exit with a Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) — a Level 5 qualification.
A full Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) — identical to a 3-year degree. No “with foundation” on the certificate.
Two things decide it: whether you meet the academic entry route, and whether your residency status qualifies you for Student Finance. Here's both.

They sound similar but are very different — getting it wrong can waste a year of funding entitlement.
Three people who started a degree without A-levels and used Year 0 to get there.
It uses one year of your Student Finance entitlement, funded at the same rate as any other year. There's no upfront cost — the tuition fee loan goes directly to your university.
No. On completing all four years you receive a full Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) — the certificate is identical to a 3-year degree.
You need to pass the Foundation year to move into Year 1. Around 80–90% of foundation-year students progress through to graduation.
Yes — the maintenance loan is available for all four years, the same as a standard degree, assessed on your household income.
